Anheuser Busch Presents Black eye: Salute to directors for the 83rd The annual Academy Awards

This event serves as the largest African American directors to welcome Hollywood film history and to recognize the pioneers whose work over the past 30 years, has re-shaped the black experience in the silver screen. Eye on Black: Salute to Directors will be presented by Anheuser Busch and contributing sponsor KESS Agency Friday, February 25, 2011 California African American Museum (CAAM).

Speakers will welcome a distinguished panel of directors and film music, and high-lighting key moments in his career, that solidifies their contribution to black cinema. Concluding the evening, the legendary director and black cinema pioneer Melvin Van Peebles will receive the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor namesake that will forever be named for him. The ceremony will also include the new director of minority recognition of film, music and theater. 2011 Emerging Face Award will be given to prospective minority director paving the way for a new generation of directors.

Established in 2003 Melvin Van Peebles Foundation’s mission is to provide educational assistance to economically disadvantaged youths.
