Britains Three Peaks Challenge and the London Borough Market function Wanderlust magazine’s annual list of Endangered Places, which has just been published. A list of events around the world, destinations need more care, and explains the steps if possible, where the British can help.

People may be surprised that the three Peaks challenge and feature of the Borough Market, but also risk losing what makes them special if current trends continue. We want to draw attention to the issues and to encourage British tourists to the maintenance in 2011.
Tourism can be a double edged sword and cities. At the same time as supporting local communities, if things arent properly managed, will soon outweigh the negatives to create a major positive environmental and cultural issues. Action – Improved governance, including increased government support for small scale low impact tourism and allowing the local Bedouin tribes have more to say, as Wadi Rum is developed and managed is of vital importance.
Virunga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo
Why – Africa’s oldest national park is home to more than one-fifth of the world’s 700 critically endangered mountain gorillas in danger of armed police, local politicians and the proposed oil drilling.

Riga, Latvia

Action – training may be the answer. In 2007 Latvian girls were invited to avoid one-night stands with tourists part of the campaign to prevent Riga on the Baltic Bangkok. Similar efforts should be made in the UK to promote respect for the level of the city.

Why is a river of white water kayaking destinations, but the water sports lovers can no longer navigate the river without any portaging around two hydroelectric dams, with a further 11 to be built. Wildlife-rich area around the river would dramatically change the plan.
Action – There are alternatives to damming up of Wild Turkeys of the river. Previous campaigns have been successful to persuade the government to delay plans for at least one of the main dam at the Yusufeli river, so there’s still hope that the construction can be stopped in the lobby.
Beijing Hutong

Why Beijing Hutong, the old alleys and courtyard houses, which were part of the city’s fabric since 1279, declining at an alarming rate due to uncontrolled development.
Action, the Beijing Cultural Heritage Center is an NGO campaigns to protect the Chinese culture. It has already been successful in preventing the old Gallic in Beijing being demolished and redeveloped, so there is hope it will have some sway with the government.
Lamu, Kenya
The problem: the ancient dhows going sleepy straits between Lamu and Kenya on the continent could soon be grappling with cargo ships and oil tankers, where the planned development of 16 million turning in Lamu, Kenya’s second largest deepwater port goes ahead?.
Action: huge feasibility study is carried out by the Kenyan government, and there is hope that the project may be abandoned take-up of the port of Mombasa. Madagascar
Why – Africa’s unique fauna of the island is under unprecedented threat from civil unrest, corruption, and overfishing. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) announced Madagascar’s ecosystems in one of the most threatened in the world.
Action – Tourism plays a large part, because of jobs and park fees, which help to neighboring communities to plan visit now! Britains Blue Ventures and the Durrell Wildlife Protection Trust has also been successfully employed to involve local people in protection, pressing the message that lemurs live in the tree is more valuable than a dead one cooking pot.
New York, USA
